Introduction to Fiber Arts
6 Sundays • March 10-May 15 • 4-6PM
About the Class

Traditional and experimental materials will be used to explore such techniques as knitting, crochet, looping, felting, off-loom weaving, and embroidery, piecing and applique. Critiques and discussions will be informed by lectures, articles and independent research. Topics will include the historical relevance of fibers, it's relationship to ideas such as labor, obsession, identity, decoration, and functionality, and what textiles have to offer within the expanded field of contemporary art. Students will also broaden their understanding of site specificity, performance, interaction, display and installation.
